My name's Alex, I've been in education in all kinds of ways from being a tutor + high school teacher + IT Coordinator + education consultant and specialist for kids in foster care.

I'm definitely passionate about seeing how a good, strong education can help shape young minds to nurture creativity and critical thinking, no matter their personal circumstances.
I truly believe every kid has something great to offer the world, it's our job as educators to help bring it out!

Here's where Turobot's idea came.

I've been teaching with what we've been accustomed to...laptops and iPads and other 'engaging' tech solutions. One of my toughest students in a 1:1 session decided to grab our only computer device we had in the pool.

Well ... guess we had to not use tech. I planned physical activities, excursions and a lot more writing and reading tasks using worksheets.

WAY better results. A much more engaged kid, not stuck to a screen (just the broken one he threw in the pool LOL) and even though he struggled with worksheets, he wasn't distracted.

Research backs it up too! studies like Mueller & Oppenheimer (2014) found that students working on paper retain concepts better and stay more engaged than those switching between digital tabs and notifications.

So in our reading and writing tasks in all subjects, I turned to making worksheets...here's where the frustration came. I made worksheets or found worksheets in 2 ways:

1. Get ChatGPT to make content, check it and put it into Canva to create a nice worksheet.
2. Scrape the internet for 'free worksheets' or 'free worksheet generator' since we didn't have a big education budget.

The result? Either I spent too much time making a worksheet my kid only looked at for 5 minutes. Or I got a very average looking worksheet from worksheet generators or never found one that suited my student.

Either way sucked.

I got frustrated and decided, you know what? I'll just make my own.

I started with a Telegram Bot ... it was cool. I learned a lot, it made decent worksheets but still looked kinda meh, and the content was okay.

Luckily I met some smart friends and together we built Turobot! At first for a few months I just used it for myself and shared it with some friends. But after realising that it helped save a lot of time, i put in the energy and effort to make it accessible for every educator!

I just wanted Turobot to help and something teachers could rely on.

What I wanted to give to educators is:

• A truly FREE library (no login, just click and get it) that will continually grow.
• A FREE app that can generate high quality worksheets
• A screen-free option to encourage focused reading and writing, but still allow educators to use AI tech to make their life easier.

I'm passionate about continuing to grow Turobot, offer much better worksheet quality over time and a continually growing free library to access for all!
